Cultural Insight is our client’s approach to understanding or ‘decoding’ culture. They have two main areas of expertise – Cultural Insight, which uses cultural analysis to ‘decode’ specific brand issues, and trends, which is a broader social, cultural and economic perspective. Our client has developed a new team to take ownership of this.
That means you have to be the kind of person that: • Is a cultural magpie who is fasincated by cultural, global issues, news, events • Has voracious curiosity and engagement with leading edge culture e.g. new music, new designers, emerging artists etc. Ideally well connected with emerging ‘communities’ • Is able to deconstruct and reframe cultural issues – understanding what these patterns of change mean • Has a bendy, creative brain that can see connections where other people cannot, and thrives working on messy problems!
Your role would include: • Managing their trend offer, being the first point of contact for Trends globally. Responding to international queries and requests, supporting on pitches and proposals, generating points of view • Running trends projects with appropriate support depending on experience – from designing approach to final project delivery • Cultural scoping and sourcing stimulus e.g. web, magazine and literature trawls, retail immersions, cultural immersions (galleries, fairs, events, street wandering armed with a camera and not afraid to use it) • Conduct cultural analysis – identifying and populating themes with relevant examples, offering detail and granularity behind bigger trends, a sense of how the issue/trend/idea is evolving and what the future might hold • Project management (general and trends related) – admin, budgets, invoicing, profitability, managing databases, organise and self starter • Manage and mentor more junior members of the team • You would also be exposed to other approaches to insight (both qualitative and quantitative) and general brand development project work • Working with our creative team to make the offer digital/take online
You will • Have experience working with trends but might also have been working in a different environment – probably at a trends consultancy, brand consultancy or ad agency • Know where and how to source examples and have a large bank of trusted websites, blogs and personal contacts at your disposal • Have experience of collating and presenting ideas and solutions to a range of clients – both internal and external • Be focused on applicability of trends to a wide range of client issues – from pure inspiration to specific, strategic implications • Ideally have some global experience • Team player
